Student Union, Durham
Time: | Sunday, 6pm |
Venue: | The Student Union, Durham |
For a number of years we have run small fellowship groups in the city of Durham, and in October 2006, we felt it was the right time to establish a celebration service in the Student Union building.
We now meet in the Kingsgate bar, which is at the rear of the Union, overlooking the Wear River. The service itself is informal in nature, but is clearly congruent with the values and expression of our other celebrations in the region – those being: a passionate worship of God; a faith held expectation of the Holy Spirit's involvement in our personal and corporate lives; and a commitment to helping those in need.
If we were to limit ourselves to one dream and vision for our Durham student service, it would be to see, and fuel, a campus wide revival across the university. Certainly, this will not happen without prayer and unity – and certainly, this will happen with prayer and unity! As such, one of the main focuses of organised intercession at our 24/7 House of Prayer is for revival in the city – a city which has consistently played such significant part in our region's, and nation's, history. We are convinced that God wants to ignite students in Durham with a devotion and passion for Him, similar to the incredible move of God at Oxford and Cambridge University in the 1880s, which birthed notable missionaries of the ilk of C.T.Studd.
As a church, we have so greatly benefited from the students who have attended our church since its inception in the 1980s – indeed, a large part of our present church leadership team is made up of graduates who decided to stay and continue serving in particular ministries. Resultantly, it remains as one of our foremost priorities to facilitate the personal and spiritual growth of our student membership, to protect those who God has called to be of great influence in our nation, and to make sure we have a lot of fun in the process.
Lastly, we are church that places a lot of value on small group meetings outside of the main celebration services. It is within small groups where we can informally connect with others in the church, learn and experience more of God, and where we can most effectively provide for any particular needs. If you would like to know more about the location and meeting times of the life-groups, or indeed, if there is anything else relating to our church, please submit your comments on the website, following the link below, remembering to leave your contact details.
